How to improve your ChatGPT visibility.
AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude are fundamentally changing how people discover brands online. Unlike traditional SEO, AI visibility requires a different approach. Here's everything you need to know.
Why AI visibility matters
When someone asks ChatGPT “What are the best CRM tools?”, they're not clicking through a list of links like in Google. They're getting a direct answer. If your brand isn't mentioned, you're invisible to that potential customer.
And the answer is not the same for everyone. When we measured twenty categories across ChatGPT and Claude, the two models routinely disagreed about who belonged in the answer — in one case by 67 points out of 100 for the same brand. Whatever your buyer is being told, it is worth knowing what it actually says.
Context vs. keywords
Traditional SEO focuses on keywords and backlinks. AI SEO focuses on context and authority:
- Clear positioning: the model has to be able to say what you do and who you serve, in one line, from what it has read.
- Third-party mentions: reviews, comparisons, forum threads. The models synthesise what others wrote about you, so this is the lever that actually moves — more than anything on your own site.
- Consistent language: if reviewers, users and analysts all describe you the same way, that description is what the model absorbs.
Five proven strategies
1. Optimize your “about” content
Your homepage and about page should clearly answer: what do you do? Who is it for? What makes you different? Use natural language that humans (and AI) can understand.
“Acme CRM helps small e-commerce businesses manage customer relationships with automated follow-ups, inventory sync, and built-in analytics.”
“Revolutionizing the CRM space with innovative solutions.”
2. Create comparison content
AI often recommends brands when asked for comparisons. Create honest, detailed comparison pages — “Acme CRM vs. Competitor X”, “Best alternatives to [Popular Tool]”, “Acme CRM pricing vs. competitors”.
3. Publish use-case studies
AI loves specific examples. Instead of generic feature lists, write about real customer workflows — “How Shopify stores use Acme CRM to recover abandoned carts”.
4. Add Schema.org markup
Structured data helps AI understand your content. Essential schema types:
Organization— basic company infoSoftwareApplication— for SaaS productsProduct— for e-commerceFAQPage— for FAQ sections
5. Get mentioned on authority sites
Being cited on sites like TechCrunch, G2, Capterra, or industry blogs significantly improves AI visibility. Focus on guest posts, “best tools” roundups, and active profiles on review sites.
How to measure your AI visibility
Unlike traditional SEO where you can check Google rankings, AI visibility is harder to measure. That's where tools like iSeer come in — we test your brand across ChatGPT and Claude with diverse query types to give you a comprehensive visibility score.
- AI Recommendation Share: Your overall AI visibility (0–100).
- Platform breakdown: Performance on each AI (ChatGPT and Claude).
- Query type performance: Buyer-intent vs. research prompts.
- Competitor share: Your share of AI mentions vs. competitors.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Optimising only your own site. The models synthesise what other people wrote about you — reviews, comparisons, forum threads. Your homepage is one voice among hundreds, and not the loudest.
- Vague positioning. If a human skimming your page cannot say who you are for in one line, a model summarising a thousand pages will not do better.
- Checking one model. ChatGPT and Claude disagree often, and sometimes enormously. An optimisation aimed at the one you happened to check may do nothing for the one your buyer opened.
- Trusting a single screenshot. Answers are sampled from a distribution. One good answer is not evidence, and one bad answer is not a crisis.
A note on what we have deliberately left off this list: claims about schema markup, mobile optimisation, and keyword density move a lot of AI-visibility advice, and we have no measured evidence for any of them. They may help. We have not tested it, so we are not going to tell you they work.
